In anticipation of Hollywood’s big award season, we’d like to revisit a little film that blew our minds in 2012: “Solar Roadways,” a 3-minute short by Oscar-nominated director Michelle Ohayon that proposed a ridiculously ingenious idea: re-“paving” America’s roads with grippy, drive-on photovoltaic solar power panels and using otherwise-wasted sunlight to generate zillions of MW of electrical power – an electrified roadway. Calling it “the largest climate rally in history,” climate change action group 350.org called for big numbers of people to come to Washington DC today, on President’s Day weekend, to urge President Obama to address the climate crisis and reject the Keystone XL pipeline: an estimated 40,000 people responded in DC, and many thousands more joined solidarity rallies nationwide.
