Homes in Washington paid an average of 14.36¢ per kilowatt-hour for electricity in April 2026. The state pays less than the country as a whole — 25.7% under the 19.32¢ average. That is 10.3% higher year over year. At that rate, a typical home using about 10,500 kWh a year would spend roughly $1,508 on electricity — the bill solar is designed to offset.

What we measure: Average residential retail price of electricity published by the EIA for the state, in cents per kilowatt-hour — a statewide monthly average, not a personalized utility tariff or the rate any single household pays. EIA publishes state retail-price data on a lag of roughly two to three months; the latest period shown reflects that lag.
